My Teaching Philosophy
When I was faced with the decision regarding what I wanted to study in college and what I wanted to do the rest of my life, the answer was easy for me. I knew that I wanted to combine everything I loved into a career and pursue what would make me happy and fulfilled when working. I have a tremendous passion for being physically active as well as working with children. For this reason, Physical and Health Education seemed to be the perfect fit for me.
Experiences along the way have only solidified my passion for health and helping others stay physically active. I have been involved with athletics my entire life, and through coaching I have been given opportunities to help athletes improve on their skills and maintain a healthy lifestyle. One particular experience reinforced my decision to pursue Physical Education as a profession. I took a week’s time to visit my older brother, Brock, who was playing professional volleyball abroad in Sweden at the time. While we were there together we had a great experience with the local community. We went to the local elementary school and interacted with the children during their recess and after school. We were all able to play games and be physically active without needing to speak the same language. This taught me that physical activity is a universal language in which everyone has the opportunity to take advantage.
With time and dedication, physical educators can help spread the importance of health and physical activity and improve the overall wellness of society. Physical activity is vital worldwide and the only way to universally influence it is to be active! I enjoyed this experience and others like it so much that I know a goal of my life is to help all youth become physically active and maintain good health.
